Skill Development - Sports
In today's world the internship program in sports is very critical to college students all over the world. Why do I say this you ask? It's because how you perform in your internship will provide a big impact on your job status when you come out of college. Doing well in your internship with the professional sports team that you chose or get assigned to plays a huge roll with your job future after college is over. Reason being is that you have to meet all the qualifications and responsibilities that are required in your internship itself. Now I was given a state to choose, and I chose the state of Pennsylvania, I was required to find fifteen sports internships and out of those fifteen internships I had to find the top three qualifications out of the fifteen. Out of the many qualifications in all of the fifteen internships the top three are you must be a college junior, senior, or graduate student working for earned credits, you must have strong computer skills preferred; ability to use Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel required, and you have to have a good and strong knowledge of sports.
Out of the many qualifications that were required out of the fifteen internships that I found the qualification of being either a junior, senior, or a graduate from college was basically the first thing that was mentioned on each internship. When you do go for internship, it is pretty obvious that you have to be in college or just have graduated college. When doing the internship while you are in college it is best to do it during a semester because it will cost you a great deal of money to do it during the summer or winter! Also, letting the pro team or company that you are doing an internship for it gives them a better idea that you know what you are doing since you are in college, because I don't think that they would want a student whose in high school working there when they don't know what they are really doing when a college student who is at a much higher level knows more than enough of what they are doing.
The second most looked at qualifications is you must have strong computer skills preferred; ability to use Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel required. After reading all of my internships, I had seen this one qualification come up a few times out of all the internship qualifications mentioned. Having good computer skills, in my opinion, is probably one of the most important to have because you have to know how to do statistics, and things such as prices. When it comes to using your computer skills in your internship, it all depends on what department that you work in, but for basically all of them you have to know how to use Microsoft Word to write down articles and memo's as well. Finally, as I had said before out of the many qualifications that you have to have out there, the qualification of good computer skills is probably one of the most important to have because in your internship program you usually are mostly working around a computer if you're not working hands on with the pro team or company.
The third and final qualification that was recommended many times was the qualification of having a good strong background and idea of sports itself. Having this qualification is probably the most important one of all. The reason as you can see is pretty obvious. If you want to get an internship with a professional sports team you better have a good background of that professional team and sports itself. As a matter of fact if you want to go into any internship for any type of field you have to have a good background and information about it because otherwise you will not know what you are doing. So when you are looking for a good internship in something that you like make sure that you know what you are doing, and that you have a good idea and sense of the sport and team itself.
In conclusion, having the right qualifications for your internship is a must. When applying for an internship, make sure that you don't try and beat around the bush and just try and pass through it, because in the end you will not go any where. In my opinion, when doing your internship you want to work as hard as possible and beat your competition and show that you come from a highly knowledgeable school and that you know more than the competition does, and that you are the right pick for the job in the end.
